Western Bariatric Institute is an established, highly experienced multidisciplinary surgical weight loss center based in Reno, Nevada. Our bariatric clinic began in 2000 as a division of Western Surgical Group, the largest surgical practice in Northern Nevada.

Four surgeons, John Ganser, M.D., Mark Kozar, M.D., Kent Sasse, M.D., and Robert Watson, M.D., perform the surgical procedures and supervise the care of all patients. Our physicians are all experienced Board Certified surgeons, are Fellows with the American College of Surgeons, and have been accredited as "Center of Excellence" physicians through the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

Western Bariatric Institute serves as one of the most comprehensive bariatric centers in the country. With strong collaboration with three major medical centers, our surgeons and programs offer the advantages of multidisciplinary care and consultations. Multiple ongoing research projects in conjunction with collaborating physicians help us learn more about obesity, its causes and treatments.

Western Bariatric Institute sponsors frequent support groups, an important component of long term success after gastric bypass surgery, and other support programs to honor our commitment to the long term success of our weight loss surgery patients.

Our surgeons specialize in minimally invasive, or laparoscopic, weight loss surgery. The procedures that are performed by our surgeons are the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Gastric Banding, Sleeve Gastrectomy and StomaphyX procedures.
