Sponsored by United Nation’s World Health Organization (WHO), World Health Day focuses upon a different health theme each year on April 7. It is an international event to emphasize and work on important health issues or problems and many countries around the world participate. This year’s theme is “Beat Diabetes.”

According to WHO the disease was the direct cause of some 1.5 million deaths in 2012. The organization predicts that by 2030 diabetes will be the 7th leading cause of death. Most diabetes cases are preventable by making lifestyle changes such as maintaining a normal body weight, engaging in regular physical activity, eating a healthy diet, and avoiding tobacco.
